by Adeline Lindstrom
5.0 out of 5 stars An insightful memoir

This is a very well written book, with so much going on. The author shares with us her growing up years, dealing with her family dynamics, amazing outdoor adventures, life on the farm, then falling in love and raising her own family. The story just keeps rolling along and you get swept up in all that is happening and all the while wondering how can she possibly be dealing with all of this and keep her own sanity and self worth intact. She outlines just how she does that and strives to simplify her life to make it manageable. The best line in the book: "I am somebody---just as I am, better than good enough!" May we all simply realize that we are "good enough". This is a must read.

This memoir succeeds in creating a bridge between the dreams and expectations of life and the realities, discouragements, and crises that are faced along the way; illustrating to the reader in an honest and vulnerable voice that releasing pride allows for growth, the full experience of being human, and living and loving to the best of our ability. Her counseling background and experience lend a special expertise to this author's heartfelt story of grief, loss and redemption in her other roles as mother, daughter and wife. It begs us all to be forgiving of ourselves, of others and to continue in faith to move forward through the darkness when it surrounds us - as it most certainly will at some point(s) in time. In addition to the important message and story portrayal, her original poetry, well-appointed quotes and meaningful personal photographs couched within the pages make this book a place of respite and insight. The author also uses refreshing humor in this thought-provoking riveting and ultimately uplifting read. It will be pulled off my shelf as a useful reference in times of trial or questioning, or simply to satisfy a desire for clarity or introspection.

Lindstrom's use of descriptive language made me feel like I was there with her on her "adventures"; the exhilarating and healing ones, as well as the frightening and painful ones. Her insightful discussion of her own family of origin and relationships, stimulates thoughts of how we must navigate through our own family to grow into healthier individuals and in relationships with spouses/partners, children, friends, etc. She shares hope that we can cope with mental/physical health challenges and stresses in our day-to-day world, even when they feel too much to bear. Utilizing faith, the love of animals, and physical activity she shared suggestions for coping, even when it felt like she was falling apart. An inspirational tale.

Adeline Lindstrom draws the reader in the world she and her family share with so many who manage ADD. Through a compelling story of marriage, parenting, diagnosis, and healing, Lindstrom engages her audience in a powerful learning experience. As her story unfolds, readers may relate to her trials, discoveries and the quest for peace in a troubled world. Ms. Lindstrom's description of life with ADD, for herself and son, are profound and provide insight often ignored or less appreciated. I would highly recommend this book to any teacher, administrator, coach or youth pastor desiring a more complete understanding of individuals with symptoms or diagnosis of Attention Deficit Disorder. I enjoyed this book very much. Reading about Adeline's adventurous travels early in her life to the tragic events that later followed showed incredible fortitude and her ability to overcome anything. Her years of counseling experience provided great insight and a new way of dealing with stressful situations, setting family goals, and living an authentic, SIMPLE life. I loved her use of the acronym of the mission of her F.A.M.I.L.Y. Faith, Adventure, Management, Imagination, Love, and Yield. This was a very inspirational story.

A fascinating story of travel, adventure, family dynamics, and personal growth that can be applied to the reader's life. I found myself wanting to read on to find out what happened next while also reflecting on similar feelings and circumstances that I have experienced with my own family. Adeline will inspire you to see the world, examine your own circumstances, and find the simple joys that mean the most to us all.
5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling, meaningful read.

This talented artist, poet and author has intermingled these qualities in a wonderful memoir of life experiences interjected with strong feelings of anxiety. Eventually with support, love of family, faith and professional care, a healing is found toward peace and positiveness for herself.
It is a good resource book for those and their families dealing with anxiety issues. The chapter on family architecture is great for all parents.
